Real Madrid beat Arsenal on penalties
Arsenal and Real Madrid drew 2-2 at the International Champions Cup on Tuesday night in America.
Real were reduced to 10-men in the ninth minute after Nacho Fernandez was sent off while he gave away a penalty.
Alexandre Lacazette scored from the spot to put Arsenal ahead, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored in the 24th minute to double the lead.
Arsenal were then reduced to 10-men when Sokratis Papastathopoulos collected his second yellow card in the 40th.
Real Madrid turned the match after the break. Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio found the target in three second-half minutes to level the scores.
Marco Asensio’s Real Madrid injury vs Arsenal
After scoring, Marco Asensio’s day worsened dramatically.
Asensio went down in the second half holding his left-knee after a coming together with Aubameyang.
It looked like Asensio hurt his knee after his studs got stuck in the turf.
A stretcher was needed to help remove Asensio from the field.
Asensio eventually left the stadium in an ambulance.
Fears Arsenal’s Dani Ceballos deal may be off
There are now fears that Arsenal’s hopes of signing Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid may be off.
Earlier in the week it had seemed that Ceballos’s move to Arsenal was a done deal.
But could the Spanish U21 star now stay at the Santiago Bernabeu following Asensio’s injury?
When that issue was posed to Unai Emery after the game, the Arsenal boss said that Asensio’s injury is bad news for Real Madrid and that he doesn’t know whether it will affect the Ceballos deal.
As for Zinedine Zidane, he said the following about Asensio:
It’s worrisome. (Is it serious?) Hopefully not, but he’s gone directly to the hospital to test. It looks bad.
