As per a report from Dominic King of the Daily Mail, Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson looks set to be sidelined until well into next month, following the injury picked up by the Brazilian versus Norwich.
Liverpool 4-1 Norwich
Jurgen Klopp’s Reds got the new Premier League season underway last night at Anfield.
Last season’s runners-up welcomed top-flight newcomers Norwich to Merseyside, after the Canaries romped to the Championship title in 2018/19.
Their first outing back amongst the big boys of English football, however, proved quite the reality check.
Despite having actually caused Liverpool plenty of problems, a lack of clinicalness in front of goal, coupled with a shaky back-line, eventually saw Norwich put to the sword by 4 goals to 1.
Additionally, things could have been a lot worse for Daniel Farke’s men.
Liverpool raced out to a 4-0 lead before half-time, courtesy of a Grant Hanley own goal, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Divock Origi.
Teemu Pukki, meanwhile, restored at least some semblance of pride for the visitors just past the hour mark.
An otherwise-positive opening to the new campaign for Liverpool, however, was soured considerably by a blow on the injury-front.
The player to have picked up the problem was goalkeeper Alisson.
After slipping whilst taking a goal-kick shortly before the interval, the Brazilian could immediately be seen to be in clear discomfort.
This eventually resulted in Alisson being escorted off the pitch by Liverpool’s medical team, with debutant Adrian having replaced the Reds’ no.1 between the posts.
And, as per the aforementioned update courtesy of the Daily Mail’s Dominic King this afternoon, the initial test results on Alisson’s issue do not look positive.
The shot-stopper is said to have torn his calf. As such, a spell of 4 to 6 weeks on the sidelines appears likely:
Initial fears for Alisson Becker is that he will be out for 4-6 weeks. Indications that he has torn his calf. If lay-off is to longer end of the scale, he could miss first Champions League group game in September 🔴
