Jan Oblak is going nowhere

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak has signed a new deal at the Spanish giants following speculation over his long-term future.

Oblak may not get the recognition he deserves but the Slovenian continues to be one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.

Coming in to replace loan star Thibaut Courtois, Oblak has played 203 games, keeping a stunning 115 clean sheets in the process.

As a result of his performances, Oblak has long been linked with a move away from Atletico.

Liverpool were linked with a move last summer before moving to sign Alisson Becker.

Chelsea also reportedly considered trigger Oblak’s old release clause, thought to be €100million, before signing Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Now, Oblak will be staying put at Atletico after signing a new deal with a whopping €120million release clause.

“I’m very happy to have signed a contract extension and to be here”

As announced by Atleti on Wednesday afternoon, the deal will run until 2023.

Oblak’s release clause will increase to €120million according to Marca but that isn’t the only thing that will increase.

Oblak will reportedly earn ’10 million net euros per season’ as a result of his new contract.

Speaking about his new deal, Oblak was clearly delighted to sign an extension.

“I am happy and very happy to renew,” Oblak claimed, as quoted also by Marca.

“There has been a lot of talk about this topic and in the end we have reached an agreement, my fifth year here and I am a person who goes up every year and there are already 5.”
