Liverpool vs Norwich
Anfield will stage the Premier League opener in the 2019-20 season.
As confirmed by the Premier League today with the release of the provisional fixture list, the league season begins with Liverpool versus Norwich at Anfield.
That match at Anfield will take place on Friday, August 9.
Norwich won promotion back to the top flight after winning the Championship.
As for the Reds, the European champions are seeking to win their first league title in 30-years.
Liverpool’s early fixture congestion
The timing of the Liverpool vs Norwich match on Friday night has caused an early season fixture congestion problem for the Reds.
Liverpool had already agreed to play German side Schalke on August 6.
As confirmed by Times reporter Paul Joyce, Liverpool are now considering scrapping the Schalke friendly due to the timing of the Norwich game.
Could the date of Liverpool vs Norwich be moved?
Maybe, but there’s nothing to indicate that’s on the cards.
Paul Joyce noted that “Sky Sports unaware of any request from club to avoid that Friday slot.”
