Gundogan’s time in Manchester
Ilkay Gundogan signed for Manchester City in 2016, moving from German giants Borussia Dortmund.
Gundogan hasn’t always been a regular starter for City, but he has still proven to be an asset in the three seasons that he has spent in England.
In total, the German has played 114 games for the Citizens, scoring 17 and assisting 17.
Gundogan has also won a plethora of trophies with City, including two Premier League titles, an FA Cup, two League Cups and a Community Shield.
Despite all of the success that Gundogan has had with Pep Guardiola’s side, though, his most recent contract negotiations have been going on for some time.
Gundogan previously gave this update on his future in early June:
“I would know about that [interest from Dortmund], I know nothing, I have not spoken to anyone.
“There will be talks in the summer and then we’ll see.
“I’m not dissatisfied with Manchester City and that’s why I would not say that I really want to leave because the club wants to extend my contract.” As quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
Then, on the 4th of July, ESPN reported that Gundogan and City would resume contract talks very soon.
Now, on Tuesday, July 9th, the Manchester Evening News has provided an update on Gundogan’s contract situation.
The MEN claim that the midfielder is playing hard-ball over a new deal.
However, the MEN alleges that City are not in a rush to sign Gundogan to a new deal, as they feel that he will not get a better offer elsewhere, and will eventually commit his future to the club.
