As per a report from the Daily Mail, Manchester United believe they will beat rivals Man City to the signature of Leicester City defender Harry Maguire this summer.
Maguire’s Man United links
Foxes’ star stopper Maguire has been plying his trade at the King Power Stadium for two seasons now.
After making the move from Hull City in the summer of 2017, Maguire’s impressive showings at the heart of Leicester’s back-4 over the course of his debut campaign, coupled with his stellar performances at the World Cup in Russia, quickly led to rumours that the 26-year-old was being eyed by a number of the Premier League’s top clubs.
Of the sides touted as potential destinations, Manchester United were the most persistently-linked with actually tabling an offer for Maguire, with it having been common knowledge that Jose Mourinho was on the lookout for defensive reinforcements.
In the end, however, a move never came to fruition.
United revive bid
Recent reports, though, have suggested that the Red Devils are ready to reignite their pursuit of Maguire this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, like Mourinho, is said to be a keen admirer of the powerful stopper’s talents.
The Evening Standard even claimed last month that United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has given the go-ahead to the club’s plan to break their transfer record on the signing of a world-class central-defender over the coming months.

Old Trafford bound?
And, as per the aforementioned update from the Daily Mail this afternoon, despite Premier League champions and fierce rivals Manchester City having joined the race for Maguire, United nevertheless remain confident of securing his signature this summer.
This comes down to the difference in valuation held by the two clubs.
City are said to value Maguire somewhere in the region of £50 million. United, on the other hand, would be willing to lodge an offer which comes close to Leicester’s £80 million price-tag.
The Foxes’ star, for his part, is said to be keen on a move to the Etihad, rather than Old Trafford. But Red Devils’ boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly confident of convincing Maguire that his future lies with United, rather than the Citizens.
