Why Eden Hazard still doesn’t have a Real Madrid shirt number

Hazard unveiled in Madrid

Eden Hazard recently joined La Liga giants Real Madrid from Chelsea for a fee reported to be around £88m plus add-ons.

Hazard had a sensational final campaign at Chelsea, in which he scored 16 and assisted 15 in 37 Premier League outings.

The Belgian has since joined Madrid with Los Blancos looking to rebuild their squad this summer.

Madrid have already signed Hazard, Luka Jovic, Eder Militao, Ferland Mendy and Rodrygo.

Hazard was unveiled at the Bernabeu on June 13th.

Hazard won’t be Madrid’s number 10

You may have noticed that Hazard did not have a number on the back of his shirt during the above video.

This is because, as of writing, Hazard does not currently have a number in Madrid.

During his stint at Chelsea, the forward used the number 10 shirt.

However, that number is currently occupied by Luka Modric at Real, although Hazard has asked him for it:

“I’ve talked to Modric through Kovacic.

“I jokingly asked him if he could leave me number 10, he said no, I have to find another number.”

According to Spanish outlet AS, only numbers 13 and 16 are currently available for Real Madrid.

However, AS go on to speculate that Hazard will simply take a number already in use such as 7 or 11.

7 is currently worn by Mariano and 11 by Gareth Bale. 7 was previously Cristiano Ronaldo’s number.
